Definition

What is Salesforce Data Cloud? Salesforce Data Cloud (formerly CDP, formerly Customer 360 Audiences) is Salesforce's enterprise Customer Data Platform / data lakehouse. It unifies customer data from multiple sources, performs identity resolution, supports segmentation and activation, and powers Salesforce AI (Agentforce, Einstein) with grounded customer context. Pricing is credit-based and consumption-driven.

Why it matters: Whether your Salesforce edition includes Data Cloud — and how many Credits — directly determines whether your AI and personalisation roadmap is feasible, whether you face year-2 overage surprise, and whether you're paying for the same capability twice across editions.

Data Cloud bundling inside Salesforce editions is one of the most opaque areas of Salesforce pricing in 2026. The marketing message — "Data Cloud comes with Einstein 1" — is true but incomplete. Credit allowances vary by edition. Activation features vary by edition. Industries-specific bundles vary by industry. And the upgrade economics from Standard tier to Einstein 1 are not always favourable. The broader Data Cloud mechanics are in our Data Cloud pricing guide.

Per Salesforce's official Data Cloud documentation, Data Cloud entitlements are delivered as a combination of (1) base capability access, (2) Credit allowance, and (3) activation feature unlocks. Each varies independently across editions — making it easy to over-buy or under-buy without explicit modelling.

Einstein 1 Editions — The Primary Bundle Path

Einstein 1 is Salesforce's strategic answer to the "Data Cloud + AI" question. It is a Sales Cloud, Service Cloud or Platform tier above Unlimited that includes both Data Cloud entitlement and Agentforce action credits. The economics make sense for organisations whose AI roadmap is dependent on Data Cloud — which is most enterprise AI use cases.

Einstein 1 Sales

Einstein 1 Sales is the Sales Cloud tier that bundles Data Cloud and Agentforce. List pricing is approximately $500/user/month (up from $330 Unlimited). The Credit allowance is typically 1,000 Data Cloud Credits per org per year, scaling with contract size. This is the most commonly chosen Data Cloud bundle path for enterprise sales-led Salesforce orgs. Negotiate the Credit allowance up — 2,500–5,000 is achievable in larger deals.

Einstein 1 Service

Einstein 1 Service is the analogous tier for Service Cloud. List pricing approximately $500/user/month (up from $330 Service Cloud Unlimited). Includes Data Cloud for Service and Agentforce for Service. Justification is strongest where Agentforce for Service tier-1 case deflection is in scope — without it, the Einstein 1 premium over Unlimited is harder to justify. See our Service Cloud comparison.

Einstein 1 Platform

Einstein 1 Platform is the broader Platform tier with Data Cloud and Agentforce — for orgs building custom Salesforce-based applications. Higher Credit allowance than Einstein 1 Sales or Service. Used where the custom-app surface is the primary build target, not Sales or Service.

Marketing Cloud Editions With Data Cloud

Marketing Cloud has its own Data Cloud bundling story — distinct from Sales and Service Cloud Einstein 1. Two product lines: Marketing Cloud Engagement (the former ExactTarget — high-volume B2C) and Marketing Cloud Account Engagement (the former Pardot — B2B).

Marketing Cloud Engagement Corporate and Enterprise

These two upper Engagement tiers include Data Cloud for Marketing. Functionality covers profile unification, identity resolution, audience segmentation and audience activation across channels. Credit allowance scales with the Engagement contract value. Below the Corporate tier (Pro and Basic) Data Cloud is not included.

Marketing Cloud Account Engagement Advanced and Premium

The former Pardot tiers — Account Engagement Plus, Advanced, Premium — bundle increasing Data Cloud functionality. Plus includes limited Data Cloud features (basic unification). Advanced includes mid-tier segmentation and activation. Premium includes full segmentation, activation, and AI capabilities including Einstein for Marketing.

How to choose between Marketing Cloud bundle paths

B2C-led organisations and high-volume marketing programs typically choose Engagement Corporate/Enterprise; B2B-led organisations typically choose Account Engagement Advanced/Premium. The Data Cloud functionality is similar; the underlying Marketing Cloud product line differs. For broader Marketing Cloud comparisons see our Marketing Hub vs Marketing Cloud comparison.

Industries Cloud Editions With Data Cloud

Salesforce Industries Cloud editions — Financial Services Cloud, Health Cloud, Manufacturing Cloud, Communications Cloud, Public Sector, Consumer Goods Cloud, etc. — each bundle industry-specific Data Cloud functionality at the upper tiers. The capability typically includes industry-specific data models, segmentation features and activation patterns tuned to the vertical.

Industries Cloud Data Cloud bundling is less standardised than Einstein 1 or Marketing Cloud. The Credit allowances vary by industry, by tier, and by region. Pre-deal modelling is essential — and the Industries-specific Data Cloud SKUs are among the most negotiable lines in any Industries Cloud deal.

Data Cloud Foundation, Plus and Premium

Beyond bundled editions, Data Cloud is also sold standalone in three tiers.

Data Cloud Foundation (free tier)

Introduced to drive adoption. Free of charge. Includes basic profile unification, identity resolution, and a starter Data Cloud Credit allowance. Designed for evaluation and small-scale proof-of-concept. Most enterprise deployments outgrow Foundation within 30–60 days — Foundation is a sample, not a production tier.

Data Cloud Plus

Mid-tier Data Cloud subscription. Higher Credit allowance than Foundation, expanded activation features, and increasing AI capability. Sold standalone or alongside Sales/Service Cloud.

Data Cloud Premium

Top-tier standalone Data Cloud. Largest Credit allowance, full activation features, Agentforce integration, and the highest level of advanced segmentation. Used for organisations whose Data Cloud build is primarily driven by data infrastructure and segmentation requirements rather than by Sales or Service Cloud.

Negotiating Data Cloud Bundling — Six Tactics

  1. Model Credit consumption against actual planned use cases. Activation, segmentation, identity resolution and AI grounding each consume Credits differently. Overage rates are 2–4× the bundled rate. Plan it, don't guess it. See our Data Cloud pricing guide for credit-consumption mechanics.
  2. Negotiate larger Credit grants at signing. Einstein 1 Sales starts at 1,000 Credits/year; 2,500–5,000 is achievable in larger deals. Credit grants are renegotiable mid-contract but with materially less leverage.
  3. Separate Foundation from production planning. Treat Foundation as a sample. Production planning starts at Plus, Premium, or a bundled Einstein 1 / Marketing Cloud Corporate edition.
  4. Lock per-credit overage rates explicitly. Above the bundled allowance, additional Credits run at $2,000+ per 1,000 Credits. Negotiate this rate at signing.
  5. Multi-year Credit grant guarantees. Demand Credit allowances locked for the contract term, not annually re-set. Salesforce default position is annual; the negotiated position is multi-year.
  6. Bundle Agentforce action credits. Agentforce action consumption (in tier-1 case deflection or autonomous workflows) competes for the same wallet share. Bundle the credit pool, not separate Data Cloud and Agentforce wallets.

"Our Einstein 1 Sales contract bundled '1,000 Data Cloud Credits per year'. Year-1 we used 800 — fine. Year-2, with Agentforce live and three new activation use cases, we burned through 4,200 — a 3,200-Credit overage at $2,400/1,000 = $7.7M. IT Negotiations re-baselined the deal: locked 5,000 Credits/year for the remaining contract term plus capped overage rates. Net saving: $5.1M against the original overage trajectory."

Decision Framework — Which Bundle Path

Sales-led enterprise
Einstein 1 Sales
If you have Sales Cloud Unlimited and the AI roadmap needs Data Cloud + Agentforce, Einstein 1 Sales is the default upgrade. Negotiate Credit allowance up at signing.
Marketing-led / B2C
Marketing Cloud Engagement Corporate
Marketing Cloud Engagement Corporate or Enterprise bundles Data Cloud for Marketing. Account Engagement Premium for B2B-led orgs.
Data-infrastructure-led
Data Cloud Plus or Premium standalone
If the Data Cloud build is independent of Sales or Service Cloud licence growth, standalone Data Cloud Plus or Premium is typically more economical.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Salesforce editions include Data Cloud?

Five edition categories bundle Data Cloud: Einstein 1 (Sales/Service/Platform); Marketing Cloud Engagement Corporate and Enterprise; Marketing Cloud Account Engagement Advanced and Premium; Industries Cloud editions (varies by industry); standalone Data Cloud Plus and Premium. Standard Sales/Service Cloud Enterprise and Unlimited do NOT include Data Cloud.

Does Salesforce Unlimited include Data Cloud?

No. Sales Cloud Unlimited and Service Cloud Unlimited do not include Data Cloud. To add Data Cloud, upgrade to Einstein 1 or purchase a standalone Data Cloud subscription.

What is included in Data Cloud Foundation (free tier)?

Free tier with basic profile unification, identity resolution and a starter Credit allowance — typically enough for proof-of-concept, not production. Foundation does NOT include Data Cloud for Marketing activations, Agentforce, or advanced segmentation. Most enterprises outgrow it within 30–60 days.

How much Data Cloud Credit comes with Einstein 1?

Einstein 1 Sales and Service include 1,000+ Credits per org per year by default with scaling for contract size. Einstein 1 Platform includes higher allowances. Credit grant is renegotiable at signing — and shortfall is the most common year-2 surprise.

Does Marketing Cloud include Data Cloud?

Partially. Marketing Cloud Engagement Corporate and Enterprise include Data Cloud for Marketing. Marketing Cloud Account Engagement Plus, Advanced and Premium include increasing levels. Below those tiers Data Cloud is not bundled.

How should I negotiate Data Cloud bundling?

Model Credit consumption against actual planned use cases; negotiate larger Credit grants at signing; separate Foundation from production planning; lock per-credit overage rates; demand multi-year Credit grant guarantees; bundle Agentforce action credits into the same negotiation.
